Ahmed, Shamsuddin² (1889-1969)  peasant leader and politician. Born at Sultanpur, a village under Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia district (formerly the district of Nadia), Shamsuddin Ahmed passed Matriculation Examination from Hooghly Collegiate School in 1910 and graduated from Presidency College, Calcutta. He obtained MA and BL degrees from the Calcutta University in 1916. He began to practise at Krishnanagar district court from 1917 and at the Calcutta High Court from 1919 as a junior of chitta ranjan das.

Shamsuddin Ahmed, an ardent follower of CR Das, was the Secretary of the Bengal Provincial Congress Committee from 1921 to 1925 and a member of the Bengal Legislative Assembly as a Congress member in 1927. He left Congress in 1929 and joined the Nikhil Banga Praja Samity and became one of its joint secretaries. He was elected commissioner of the Calcutta Corporation between 1933 and 1936 and a member of the Bengal Legislative Assembly as a krishak praja party candidate in 1937. He was one of the founders of the KPP and a member of ak fazlul huq's Ministries until he joined the muslim league in 1944. He was also a member of Suhrawardy's Ministry from 1946 to August 1947 and was the Ambassador of Pakistan to Burma after 1947. [Rana Razzaq]
