Atmiya Sabha, The  established by rammohun roy (1774-1833) in Calcutta in 1815, was a private discussion group of like-minded people who met regularly at Rammohun's Manicktola garden house in Calcutta. The Atmiya Sabha (Society of Friends) was a sort of a forum where Rammohun and his friends exchanged their views on religious and social problems. Among the topics discussed at the meetings of the Atmiya Sabha were the futility of image worship, evils of the caste system, the practice of sati and polygamy, and the desirability of widow remarriages.
