Ijaradar a revenue farmer. Ijara means farming of revenue. In the Mughal period ijara or farming system was prevalent. A revenue farmer was known as Ijaradar or Mustajir. The east india company's government, during its early period, also farmed out revenues to ijaradars or mustajirs. In 1772 land revenue was settled with the ijaradars by putting land on auction. After the permanent settlement also vast areas of the Sundarbans, Sylhet and Chittagong were brought under settlement with the ijaradas.
