Nakla Upazila (sherpur district) with an area of 174.80 sq km, is bounded by nalitabari upazila on the north, jamalpur sadar and mymensingh sadar upazilas on the south, phulpur and haluaghat upazilas on the east, sherpur sadar upazila on the west. Depression 10, most noted of which is Mehedidanga Beel; main river old brahmaputra.

Nalka (Town) consists of 3 mouzas. The town has an area of 4.6 sq km and a population of 7332; male 53.07%, female 46.43%. The density of population is 1593 per sq km. Literacy rate among the people is 47.3%.

Administration Nakla thana was established in 1930 and was turned into an upazila in 1982. The upazila consists of nine union parishads, 88 mouzas and 117 villages.

Archaeological heritage and relics Single domed Kalapara Mosque (18th century).

Historical events In 1971 battles between the Freedom Fighters and Pakistan army were fought in different places of Narayankhola, Gauraddar, Boroitar and Chandrakona. In these battles 20 members of the freedom fighters were killed.

Population 162952; male 51.03%, female 48.97%; Muslim 97.41%, Hindu 2.28% and others 0.31%.
